Quicktime Pro will do the trick, but not an unregistered/non-pro version. I'm sure there are some freeware encoders out there, but I can't think of any offhand. There's always iTunes or SoundJam which are free. You should be able to find something on VersionTracker, and if not there's always the option of registering QT (or just pirating the serial number, but you didn't hear that from me... )

Perhaps SoundApp can help you out, too.

Easy solution: don't bother supporting Microsoft's proprietary formats.

real audio sucks, at least for the mac. but i need it for a client's site.
& i need windows media player...

a case of NEED vs WANT
(otherwise, i'd stick with quicktime!)

if you convert an AIFF file to MP3 and then change the creator to "Ms01" the file will use WMP to open the file.
At least on a mac.

For WiMP you need to use Cleaner 5. It costs a lot, and I bet the free version Cleaner EZ don't support WiMP.

I'm not proud to recommend a M$ product, but if you have access to a win-machine, Windows media encoder is fairly good to use for creating WM files - and free.
