Anyone have suggestions on some reasonably priced, fairly full-featured music authoring software? MIDI seems to me to be the best solution, but I have little idea where to go from there.

A little background: I'm a college student looking for software that will help me arrange pieces for the a capella group I'm a member of. The group has 10 voices, and we tend to do arrangements with 6+ vocal parts (so more than standard S,A,T,B standard music arrangments). I'm a long-time mac user (I currently have a SP G4/400/128/PCI graphics). Any suggestions would be helpful.

peace

I use a program called Musictime, which is published by Gvox. Would work fine for what you want to do. Should cost around 50 bucks. I ordered my copy off their website; go to http://www.gvox.com and click on "contact us" in the upper frame.

You could try Pro Tools FREE. Digidesign released a free, and scaled down, version of their studio recording software, Pro Tools. The only limitation I can see you may have is that Pro Tools FREE has a limit of eight tracks which might conflict with the "6+ vocal parts".

But give it a try. I'm using it on my G4 450DP with my Flying V and am loving it.

I bought Finale for my son, and he loves it. It does just about anything I could think of, and was about $250 for a student to purchase. Give it a look.
