iMovie blows?

I downloaded the free copy of iMovie (iMovie 1) and began to use it on my G4 400 (320 megs, 9.0.4, no apps running). I made my first video last night, and I'll admit it is nothing spectacular (but I am happy with it!). But even in the little that I have used iMovie I've realized one of two things: either I'm missing something or iMovie blows. I'm leaning towards iMovie blowing, but maybe ya'll can help me.

How do you fine tune the movie? Like how would I get it so that a sound would be synched when text pops up on the screen? I've found over and over again that to get sounds synch with on screen action prefectly is all a matter of luck.

Why does exporting to Quicktime suck? I selected the highest resolution for the export (CD-ROM large), and the exported file was horrible. It was choppy and dark. I was disgusted with it. I don't think it's my comp that's degrading it because I've watched movies in much higher resolution with no choppiness. For now, I actually prefer the smaller, "lower quality" exporting because it actually seems to be higher quality.

How do I get more (and better) colors for titles?

How do I load in more sounds wo/ recording from a CD (eg an mp3)?

How do I do custom/detail editing of the video (eg blur spots, censor blocks, arrows, custom placement of text etc.)?

For the sake of simplicity, how do I glue two clips back together?

Why won't iMovie get my stills (they're on a MultiMediaCard)? I think I know the answer to this one though. . .

How do I get custom transitions (eg slide to the LEFT) or title movements (eg a la Superman)?

How is iMovie2 better?

In short, am I just uneducated or does iMovie blow?
