It allows you to convert your analog video tapes to DV suitable for import into iMovie, FCP etc.

It will also convert DV back to analog to create tapes.

If you don't have a DV video camera with analog input, some of the high end consumer ones have this ability, it is a good way of getting your old Analog tapes into DV.

Thanks, I'm wondering if anyone has tried it hows the quality? I'm curently shooting with a Panasonic 456U SVHS which I'm very happy with and have actually used for broadcast (cable) programing on occasion I assume these will work together. Will I retain near the same quality as my original? Are their other solutions?Tthis seems very affordable.

I have one of the Sony Converters, and I love it! But, a word of caution: If you do not have a Sony camcorder with the LANC connection, you should look for the DVMC-DA1, which is the first model released. Here's the reason: When exporting back to tape, you will be denied if you do not have a Sony with LANC, because the software will not see a valid source to export to. Anyway, as far as quality, it is near lossless. I have had no complaints. I would seriously investigate compatibility before a purchase. Also, don't spend $399, I got mine for $271 from www.eleaseorbuy.com. Search Cnet.com for the latest and cheapest prices. Good luck.

Thanks for the review, what I'm hoping to do is hook my svhs camera up to it and upload my footage to my Mac edit it and then download it back to svhs. It seems that this is exactly what it is made for. My camera is a 456U Panasonic I wonder how I would check for compatibility?

brianzap, the only cameras that the DVMC-DA2 plays back too have the LANC jack. I think this is unique to SONY cameras. And, for sure, it will only play back to DV, not to svhs.

I am going to try the DVMC-DA2 to get my VHS into the iMac, and then the iAVerKey DV to play back to a VHS deck. Anyone have any experience with THIS?

Thanks

My Canon ZR-10 has one of those LANC ports on it. Also, doesn't the Sony converter convert the signal back to analog video? Why wouldn't you then be able to save it to SVHS?

My analog 8mm Canon has a LANC connection on it also. I can easily put my movies back onto 8mm. I have not yet tried it with my VHS VCR. I don't understand why it wouldn't work. The LANC is supposed to give you control of the recording device through the DVMC, but if I manually press the record button, it should export video regardless of the LSNC cable being present. Am I missing something here? The DVMS is billed as being able to export to analog video, it does not say that LANC is required.

I do not believe this is for sale yet, but should be able to do what you are looking for.

I'm hoping to get one, if the reviews are good and I'm able to try it out first.
