Converting mp3s to open in quicktime

I recently downloaded some wonderful 40's music. I thought I could convert them from their original format to QuickTime 4.1.1 through FILE -->IMPORT -->CONVERT, but it doesn't change the format so that it will open automatically in Quicktime with a simple doubleclick. Is there a proper way to do this that I may have missed?

Simply saving the file creates a small (maybe 8k) QuickTime file. That can't be correct. Suggestions please?

Thanks.

Open them in ResEdit.
Get info in file menu.
change type to MP3 creator to TVOD

Get "Snitch" rather than using Resedit if you're inexperienced in using Resedit. Snitch will allow access to the creator information just by getting info on the file, no need to launch any heinous apps!!

I did exactly that...numerous times. However, a very easy to use program, Filetyper, did exactly what I needed, very quickly and easily.

Thanks.

Hey if you still care you can do this quite simply in quicktime. I forgot to tell you to change the name.
1 open mp3
2 file-> save as (alter original name)&(Choose self contained)
Try it out ! Seriously. Sorry it took so long to reply.
