I know this is probably a basic question for many out there, but I'm in the process of importing some interviews I've conducted onto my mac to burn them to CD for backup. I'd also like to keep them on my TiPB also. AIFF files seem quite big. I know MP3 files are smaller. What's the best file to keep them in, if there is one, and does it matter if it's AIFF or MP3? I'm also trying to decide whether to use SoundStudio or Amadeus, but it seems SoundStudio doesn't allow me to "Save As MP3". Am I missing any good audio importing programs?

If you are using FCP it likes AIFF better other than compressing to and other format only to change it back is not a bad idea.

.aiff is uncompressed audio - therefore the best. (it is also an apple standard which is why it works so well with FCP)

CD's are also uncompressed. MP3 files have an 11:1 compression (roughly speaking)

So leave it umcompressed. "Protools Free" is good - cause, well, it's free.

MP3's life is on the web.
