Not sure if this is the best forum for this but...I'm a bit behind the times but am getting a cd burner today and was wonderin...
What do you use to make your cd labels? Either for the cd itself or the inserts for jewel boxes.

Also, does the sticker weight mess up the drive for playback? I've seen mixed thoughts on that.

Thanks!

My copy of Toast Deluxe came with a labeller and a template and some sample labels. The template sucked so I gave up on it.

I bought a copy of CD-Stomper which comes with Mac software -- perhaps it's because the menu isn't very helpful, but I gave up on it and just kludged together something in AppleWorks that fits the labels. I haven't dine jewel boxes yet but I'll probably do the same; it may take me more time to create my own format than it would to learn how to use the software (if, indeed, it will work properly), but I'm funny that way.

As far as balance problems, this usually happens when one side of the label is "heavier" than the other, which it seems to me would be harder to do with a printed label that covers the entire surface; most problems that I've run into happen with labels that are screened directly onto the CD with the ink on one side.

i got Mediaface withh my Yamaha CDRW. It necessitates use of the GX format, obsolete! nd won't use the standard True Type fonts. It is more trouble than it is worth; didn't even bother!
Bought Stomper. The labels are OK, but the program doesn't position them accurately, and one has to fiddle with rulers, etc. It works sort-of.
The text editor for J-cards and tray cards is puny. I quickly went to Pagemaker and set up my own templates. That is much better.
Tech support at Stomper recognizes the problems, told me they would be issuing an upgrade in three months with much improved text capabilities. Ok, maybe. Show me! Meanwhile, a felt pen works OK but doesn't look too nice for gifts, etc.

My best success was with buying a set of 2-up blank CD labels, then scanning them in Photoshop. I used that image as one layer, and made a new layer to place my graphics on. With the scanned layer in the background, I could position graphics and text within the boundaries of the CD. Just hide the scan layer before printing, and all will be well.
