Talk about walking on the edge....
Anyhow, I use a Roland UA-30 (their USB audio input device) http://www.edirol.com on my 500mHz Cube for getting digital audio of any manner into the machine for use on whatever I choose...iMovie included..and then piping it back out to whatever source.
I have also long been using the MyTV USB TV and video input device, on other USB Macs, for catching some DSS or even cable TV while doing other things in the office.
I have been trying to *marry* these two devices so I can use the Cube's built-in audio and speakers. As it stands there appears to be far too much USB activity to allow this to occur. The MyTV video freezes and the audio never gets going if I have the Roland connected to the bus.
So let's establish this is an obscure thing to try, but it's worth asking if any of you has any experience using these two toegether?
That is, using the USB bus exclusively to pipe both vieo and audio IN to the Cube - since it lacks a simple analog Audio in?
thanks
regards,
patrick

It seems to me that it should work if you input the audio through one usb port and the video through the other, since each port provides an independent 12 MBps. If this is what you have been trying, I'm not sure why it doesn't work. Anyone else have any ideas?

I've been under the hood to a higher degree in the last day or so...here's what I know thus far.
If I remove the Cube's USB speakers from the equation both the Roland and the MyTV work without a hitch.
Each of these three items is an isosynchronous USB device. The conclusion is thus - at today's rev level the Apple USB drivers cannot handle more than two of these devices at once.
I am hopeful a future iteration of the USB drivers will allow this to occur but there is no certainty.
I did move the devices around in almost every possible manner - ultimately having the same result in each case - two of them at once but not three. Speaking of the USB connectors on the belly of the Cube, one is the closest to the mother board, and the other is connected to the bus which goes to the flat monitor.
I have exchanged email with Griffin WRT their soon to ship iMic (USB adapter with line level capability) and they are finding the same issues. They have a MyTV in hand and have the same issues.
Thanks for your reply. For the moment I must use some small, crappy external self-powered speakers if I wish to use the USB-powered MyTV on my Cube.
regards,
patrick

Hello...
(I'm responding to this post because there is mention of audio out on the UA-30. I really need some quick help )
I'm set to do some field recording this weekend with an iBook SE, a Roland UA-30, and a mic.
Trouble is, the UA I just bought was packaged BEFORE the USB drivers for the Mac were released with 9.0.4. So it came with NO Mac Manuals...
I've gotten it to record with no problem.
However, I cannot get it to output through the UA-30--only input. The "output" option neither appears in Sound Manager nor BIAS Peak.
So, two questions:
(1) Does anyone have the Mac-related manual?
(2) Does anyone know how to solve the sound-out problem?
I'm getting a bit desperate, so thanks in advance for your prompt help!
Mike from Texas
