I wnat to add a second monitor to my computer for use with FCP 2. I have a dual 450 g4 512 mb RAM and a 40 GB HD. Any recomendations on a video card. I have looked at the radeon cards, are they sufficient and how difficult are they to install? Also I want to add a second HD preferably 60-80GB to be used only as a scratch disk for video clips. Any suggestions for a good internal drive for this purpose?

All yuo need is a cheap video card for the second monitor...really.

at first I thought otherwise and put off buying one till I could get an e-bay radeon or somesuch but I just payed 99$ and got an ims3D

it works great, after all it only for pallettes . . .

with FCP you will need to get an NTSC monitor and some form of media converter to watch full frame while you edit . . . so in the long run expect to have at least three monitors on your desk.

and for HDs go for the ibm 75gxp... its 7200rpm and you will definitely notice the difference between that and a 5400rpm HD

they are reliable and fast and also pretty cheap . . . they sell on e-bay as well as ubid

Re : Hard drives - For DV work most hard drives are fine. 5400 rpms will do - 7200rpms are sweet. If you are considering doing anything above DV level you will need to look at faster hard drives. My composting workstation will (im upgrading a dual 450 after MWNY) have 3 x 15 000 rpm cheetahs striped for playback of uncompressed files from After Effects. I'll be bringing the un-compressed 10bit files in via a digital voodoo card.
