I'm running System 9.1 on and blue-and-white G3, 350 megahertz with 128 real RAM and 129 virtual.
I downloaded and installed QuickTime 5.0.2. It killed my desktop picture (a tiff) and slowed the entire computer to a crawl. I could draw the icons with a pencil and crayon faster than they would appear after a reboot.
I pulled the main QuickTime extension, then rebooted. The computer ran normally. After more fuitile fiddling, I trashed all of QuickTime and reloaded version 4 from my System 9 CD. All works well again, except that it's too old a version of QT. There is no newer version, except for 5.02 on the Apple site, that I can find.
Is this problem mine alone or has it affected others? Anyone have a cure?
