I have ripped manu mp3s at different rates (128,160 and higher). Now to save HD space I want to convert them all to 128. My question is: can I just use SoundJam/iTunes to convert the existing mp3s to 128 or do should I convert them to AIFF first and then to mp3s at 128? I have over 1000 mp3s so I hope I don't have to go through the extra step.

Thanks for the help!

When I have had trouble with an mp3 file I would just re-encode the mp3 and the problem would go away. I would do this without the AIFF step and have not heard any sound quality problems.

So, I would just setup the soundJam converter to create mp3s at 128 bits/per and then convert the files. Test the process on a few before you convert them all, just to be safe.
