Has anyone ever heard of/seen the DVA-2100 VDR which supposedly records from media (VHS, DVD etc.) onto CD-R/VCDs?

I know this isn't strictly Mac stuff but until I can afford a SuperDrive I'm checking this stuff out

I'm suspicious about this thing's claims since I bought the Brujo, the box that's supposed to play MP3s from your burned CDs. That was a true piece of s**t.

Terapin has a VCD recorder that will record your aduio and video in at real time. It's about $500 but they're a pretty well established company (if you read the video magazines). And it's indpendent of your computer. If you have video and audio out of your computer you could record your iMovie or whatever to the device. It even comes in a couple of different colors.

Go Terapin

Hmm. Looks okay, but I don't think you'd be able to pop the resulting disk into Daddy's Madeinchina Price Club DVD player and expect to watch it.

Go and visit the VCDhelper Web site. They have all sorts of good information about VCDs. The best part is their searchable database of DVD players and their capabilities. It is MUCH more extensive than Apple's lame list of DVD-R compatible DVD players. This list will even tell you what COLOR of CDR discs to buy to get them to play in your DVD player! Two days after Steve Jobs introduced the G4s with the SuperDrives inside this site added a column for "DVDR" support. Very good info.

Don't expect your dad to be able to watch the VCD you make with Toast or the DVDR you made with iDVD without checking this site either. It's a function of your DVD player's ability to read CDR discs and has (almost) nothing to do with the machine or software that created the VCD.
