I downloaded some mp3s from an ftp server, and when i play them i get these weird popping and squeaking noises during the song. All my other mp3s work fine, and my friend who directed me to the site has plenty of mp3s from it that work fine. The files show up as the white file, like the computer doesn't know what the type and creator are, and i've tried changing the type and creator to a number of mp3 players. If anyone knows what the problem is, I would really appreciate it.

Simply either bad files, or got corrupted during download.
Try some more mp3's...
I have heard of and seen cases where when downloading an mp3 and playing one, the two files 'mesh' together (or really, the one being downloaded gets parts from the one playing put into it), and that can cause such problems... very very strange. But it does happen
