Problem with FCP/XL1

I'm leaving on a one month vacation Tuesday or Wednesday, and so I've been testing my XL1 with FCP to make sure I'll be doing everything correctly (I just got it Friday).

I've had some problems though; when I capture footage in FCP (I don't know much about FCP either) everything is pixelated and blurry. However, if I shoot in Frame mode, it looks fine BUT plays back horribly.

I'm going to want some of this to be able to play back on the computer AND on TV. What settings should I use, etc, to make everything look good?

Thanks,

MacAgent

Ok, I just exported back out to the camera and played it back on TV and it looks great (even after it looks crappy on the computer), SO now the real question is, how can I make it look good on the computer too?

For playback :

Make sure that the video windows fit perfectly inside the main window ie there aren't any scroll bars - 50% usually does it. Make sure your sequence settings are right. ie NTSC DV etc

You can't make it look any better on the computer monitor. If you have a spare TV around you can use the mirror to external monitor through your camera to see exactly what everythings going to look like. This mirrors your video out to the TV but can slow down performace a little bit.

Well, see, I'm going to want to be able to upload certain videos, and put some on CDs, etc. Even when I export as Sorenson or whatever, it looks horrible.

Duality was shot with a GL1 (I think) and it looks great. I need to be able to do that.

Is the quality bad even when you export it out of FCP as Quicktime movie ? Are you using Media Cleaner for this ?
