Is there an app out there that will do this?
Currently I edit sound files by converting them in SoundJam (OS 9) from mp3 to AIFF and them use SoundEdit (OS 9) or Sound Studio (OS X) to edit.
If no editor is available, is there a OS X mp3-aiff conversion program? I like SoundJam but am trying to stay in OS X exclusively.

You can import MP3 files directly in SoundStudio. Use the "Import with QuickTime" feature in the File menu. Of course, it only lets you save as AIFF, so you'd have to convert it back to MP3 (I normally use iTunes).
