I am trying to learn how touse Final Cut Pro on my PB 550 with 512 megs of ram. I am running in OS X and constantly get an error message saying that one or more frames have been dropped. Is there something with the PB and using Final Cut? The particular video in question was done on an analog camcorder, then transfered to a digital Sony camcorder, then to the laptop.

Any ideas?

Make sure your settings are correct, read the getting started chapters in the manual. PB550 is plenty of power for FCP3.

Are you running your media off of a Firewire external drive? If it doesn't use the Oxford 911 bridge chipset, or if it's 4200-5400 rpm, or if it's very fragmented, that could easily be your problem.

Also, what kind of video format are you working with (DV?) and do your sequence settings match that?

I thought I'd pass along the resolution to this issue that I obtained from Apple today. I got my first use out of my Apple Care protection policy and given the frustration I experienced with this issue the cost of the Care is well worth it.

The tech had me reset the PMU button on the back of the laptop, holding down through 3 startup tones.

I then went back in to run the program and it works fine now.

Thanks Apple.
