When I rip a CD in iTunes on my iMac DV SE 400 the max. speed I get is about 2.5x. That seems slow as the cd/dvd player can read a CD at 24x or more. I tried to install the DVD drive fireware update but the software claims that my system is unsupported. Any suggestions or reports of your rip speed would be helpful.

Thanks!

Actually, the maximum speed is 24x...which is seldom achieved. The rip speeds are determined by how fast your processor can encode the data. My 433 G4 Rev B rips/encodes between 3.8x and 4.1x. I hope this helps!

That DVD update was for the newer Summer 2000 iMacs only.

This seems to be an iTunes issue not an iMac one, so I'm sending this to Multimedia...

With my dual 500 G4 I get anywhere from 6.0 to 9.0 x rip speed.

I got 4.8x on my Rev D 333 iMac......with Soundjam that is.

SJ had a much more sophisticated ripping engine than iTunes does and therefore takes more advantage of ripping power, of course from what i have seen of iTunes it looks way more complete and easy.....o well heres waiting for enough money to buy OS9.
