Read: http://www.appleinsider.com/articles/0101/winamp.shtml

I don't know if I should be excited or if I shouldn't care. I have iTunes and it encodes mp3s which WimAmp doesn't do. However, WinAmp (and MacCast) are much prettier. I like thier interface much better. Anyway, I guess it's a good thing. More stuff for the Mac!

Why?
There are so many.
Audion is the prettiest... the best sounding... etc.
Not much point. Who's gonna actually use WinAmp?
Not me.

Actually, I would give it a try... While I have a registered copy of SoundJam and have downloaded iTunes when it was made available, I still use SoundJam.. I like the skins that are available and have yet to find anything available to customize iTunes... (and isn't iTunes an uncustomizable "as-of-yet" version of SoundJam?)...

I use a PC all day at work and use WinAmp religiously.. For the PC, it's the fastest, slickest, and most comprehensive MP3 player there is... There are thousands and thousands of skins and plugins... (whether they'll work with the Mac, we shall see!) I'm interested to see it ported to the Mac (although that rumor has been going around for quite a while with nothing to show for it...)

We shall see what happens..

Soundjam and iTunes both kick but already. Soundjam can even use most of the skins from WinAmp (though why would you want to since WinAmp skins are so unoriginal). I don't see the point of WinAmp coming out for the MacOS. It'll probably have a very small following of previous Windows users, but that's about it.

It most certainly does. You can get plugins for Winamp to make it do just about anything. Burn CDs, encode mp3s etc...

The mac version of winamp that I saw did nothing more than play. Not sure if they're putting all the PC features in it, as I think it was just a pet project.
I've been sticking with subband's MacAmp, it seems the best for me.

There's not a huge variety of Windows MP3 players, not like there is for the Mac, so they think WinAmp is some pretty hot stuff. Maybe to people who use Windows, but which Mac user wants a stagnant, three-year-old MP3 player? We've got MacAST, MacAmp, SoundJam, iTunes, Audion...even QuickTime. Why are they even bothering? Who will care?

[sarcasm] Oh, wow. The Mac has more mp3 players. I had my doubts about which was the better platform, but that makes it clear [/sarcasm]

That type of image isn't that difficult to create, I had a creative image of Norton System Doctor for the Mac using a Tabed window. I forgot where I put it though...

I tried it and it most certainly looks like this pict. http://www.fileclicks.com/softscrn/2953_1.jpg

it's only an alfa version and is no good (no presets on equalizer, it doesn't have good playlists (as iTunes, soundjam and audion), no ability for skins yet, ugly)

but it's another thing for mac and the more apps, the better! It will get better in the future (I hope).

I am currently using it, and like the size (when minimized) much better than iTunes...

What else about it? Is it stable? Does it support visuals? Does it play back well? Is it easy to use? Basically, give us a rundown if you have the time. Thanks.

I have been using it almost a week now, and it appears to be totally stable. It has not died, quit out, killed me, etc.

No visuals, skins, plugins, etc. yet... they are most definately on the way though. Playback is as good as iTunes... I have not noticed any differences in sound quality.

It is very simple and easy to use, drag the files right into the playlist and your good to go...

It is a great start! Good job Nullsoft!
