I was wondering if any other people have tried input--and output--of video from a Rev C iMac.
I just got a new camcorder, and I knew that somehow, there was a way to do it...I need it to be relitively cheap, but alright.
I know that I can input easily, but I need output.

I guess the question is: What are you going to be using it for?

You can output your work back to your camera via iMovie. Go to Export Movie>Camera

I'm not sure if there are any external hardware options available that use FireWire (obviously USB would be too slow).

I want to make movies and output them to VHS.
What would happen if I only had video in and burned a VCD? What could I do from there?

If you can input, can you not export the same way?

Personally, I'd get the motherboard upgrade, with the new processor, video card and FireWire onboard. Harmoni, is its name...

The most affordable way to get your edited footage to a VHS tape would be to output your edited video back to your DV camera and then use included video out cable and connect it to your vcr's inputs. Hit play on the camera and record on the vcr. Not the most luxurious method, but it gets the job done.

I'm sure you could make VCD somehow using a Quicktime movie but I just don't know how. Maybe search http://www.versiontracker.com for a VCD program.
