my brother is trying to do a film project for school and wanted to edit it on my iMac. iMovie will launch but then it quits, giving me an "error 12".

so thats how it goes. my first real chance to demonstrate the power and simplicity of my Mac and it cops out on me If anyone has any ideas what's going on I would appreciate some help.

(oh yeah, it crashes rite about the time that it is trying to load the sample movies that come with it. before I tried re-installing the program, it would open but then quit whenever I hit the PLAY button to play one of the sample films.)

Sorry, I should have included all that stuff. I do have plenty of my 192 megs allocated to iMovie, the version of iMovie was one, and I am running a ton of funky extensions. I figured they were the problem, so I got rid of them and reloaded them.

Anyway, I found the probelm. For anyone else who gets an "error 12" it just means that you have to put the Control Strip extension back into the extension folder. Thanks for your help Demonhood; my brother film kicks ass!! He did it in like no time at all... we decided to keep my uncles camera for a bit longer to fool around with this stuff some more. We'll just tell him that there was an extension on the project

Sounds cool, you should enter it in the MacNN Film competition (once it is started...). Have fun (^v^).

About the filesharing thing, it would be a great idea to have videographers with a little time on their hands to send in their good movies and explain what they did so that people who are really bad at editing videos (eh hem) may learn from the masters.
