Hi all,
I'm working on a live webcast project and could use some help from anyone who has experience with this. Our university's new president is being inaugaurated (sp?) this April. We will be webcasting it for those alums, etc, who can't attend and are in the process of doing trial runs since this is terra incognita for us.
Our encoders are iBook DVSE (we needed power and portability), our server is RealServer 8 on Linux with qtss built in, our feeds are coming to us via firewire and usb (audio on the Sorenson encoder is via USB til the firewire audio bug is fixed) and our encoding software is Sorenson Broadcaster 1.1b2 for QuickTime and Real Producer Plus 8.5.
The audio/video feeds come off the source into two Director's Cut dv/analog boxes and then via FireWire into the Real iBook and via Firewire (for video) and USB (for audio) into the Sorenson iBook.
The signals are then pointed to the RealServer via 100mbit ethernet. (The encoders and the server are on the same subnet)
When we set these up and go to a client computer to watch the feed, we are seeing out-of-sync audio, choppy video and dropped frames. We have tried both custom settings on the encoders and presets. We've watched the server load and it hasn't gone above 0. (Dual processor Linux boxes are fun.)
So...we're stumped. We've been in and out of talks with Real, Sorenson and Apple and we don't know if our problem is in our hardware (the iBooks), the encoders (our configs may be wrong?) or our server. One question I have is what version of qtss is in Realserver 8. Should we load qtss3beta?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Pat
