Well, I just downloaded and installed iTunes 1.1 to burn an audio CD with my Apple approved and tested QPS QueFire Firewire CDRW (Plextor Model: PX-W1210A), and it work recognize the burner. I have also tried a MacOS 9.1 base extension set with iTunes extensions turned on and it still does not work.
Any advice?
Thanks

I have the same problem, except that I have a supported Que USB drive with one of the Mitsumi drive mechanisms. I tried everything I could think of. Maybe you'll have some luck with what I've tried. I installed Mac OS 9.1, it says it's required for burning with 3rd party. Turned off my other CD burning software extentions, in case of a conflict. Made sure I installed the USB authoring extension. But, it still doesn't work.
Anyone out there know how to fix this problem?

I have a QPS QueFire 8x4x32x CDRW. How do you know what the drive mechanism is?
At anyrate, mine doesn't work either. I'm running OS9 though as I haven't been able to install 9.1 for some very bizarre reason.

I must be lucky. My Que! Fire 8x4x32 works great with iTunes. I think I have a Plextor drive but am not sure. I have over 1400 Mp3's so far stored with iTunes and now it will be easy to make Cd's for my car.
One drawback is that Toast wont work now but I assume a fix will be out soon. I can always use Conflict Catcher to boot with the extensions off for iTunes and it should work. I am very pleased with it. Not the greatest but it is totally free. All in all I think Apple is gonna finally kick some PC butt

My Que! FireDrive 4x4x24 (Mitsumi drive) also works fine with iTunes 1.1
As a side note I replaced the CD drive in my G3 with a Yamaha 8424CRW drive and that too works with iTunes.

Lastnight after installing iTunes 1.1 to my dismay it didn;t burn. I don;t know if this was related but my dern G4 Crashed. keyboard and mouse stopped working. It worked when I booted from the CD. Thank God for the second drive I have. I reformatted and re-installed and now iTunes burns with my QUE! USB. Wooohooo.

I think I found a solution to the iTunes1.1 Burning problem (which I read on MacFixit). Trash the Authoring Support folder in the Extensions folder and reinstall iTunes1.1.
When I originally installed iTunes1.1 it did not update all the files in the Authoring Support folder. One of the files it did not update was the PlextorCDR file, which is the file needed for my QPS QueFire Firewire CDRW (Plextor Model: PXW1210A).
Everything seems to working fine now.

Ok.........
Hardware:
PowerMac G3 400mhz (b&W)
Que 8432 Firewire CDRW
Software:
Fresh install (less than a week) MacOS 9.1
Toast Deluxe 4.1.2
iTunes 1.0 upgraded to 1.1
Well I was very happy to see itunes 1.1 w/ it's defined support for non Apple CDRW's. However with the above configuration I have not been able to get itunes to burn a cd. In fact it just hangs my system after it tries to burn the cd (light on the drive flashes several times after music prep. is finished)and states it is closing the session "burn has failed, this may take a minute or two." It never leaves this "closing session" state and has to be forced quit.

With all these problems, I think I'll just stick with 1.0 and the way I've been doing things, which is real easy. I put my play list together in iTunes and when I'm happy with it, I just select all the songs and drag the list over to Toast and burn the CD. With it being that easy, why upgrade, especially if Toast will no longer work, which I need for data CDs?

iTune is still not working with my QUE CDRW. I have done everything that you guys advise. My guess is that I may have forgotten one extension. Can anyone give a list of all extensions that are installed by Toast.
Thanks.

I have a QPS QueFire 12/10/32 drive on my G4. I can burn music CD's
I think the key is to disable ALL other Toast and QPS (QUE) extensions. As well as any other CD authoring extension you may have. For QPS drives this definitly includes the QBP-2 Bridge Enabler.
The following link also discusses (and posts an installer at the very bottom) installing and using Disc Burner on supported drives. I downloaded Disc Burner and this modified installer and everything works great. I get the formatable disc icon when inserting blank CD's just as described.

Good luck,

OK. I got a QPS QueFire 8x4x32 cd-rw drive and it drove me crazy that I couldn't burn backup files with Toast. After much consternation, I finally discovered that because I had installed iTunes I was having major extension conflicts. The solution I came up with was to make a separate set of extensions for Toast that had NO iTunes extensions enabled in it, and left Toast stuff disabled and iTunes enabled in my regular settings. This way I can burn audio CD's easily with iTunes and switch to the Toast set when I need to make backup discs of files and pictures.

OS 9.1, iTunes 1.1, Disc Burner 1.0.1, Que 12x10x32x....
With all the toast extensions off, Disc Burner will recognize the drive, giving you the option to prepare it in three ways and putting a CDRW icon on the desktop.
Any attempt to burn the CD, however, results in "unsupported device" and iTunes doesn't recognize at all.
any suggestions?
thanks!

Hi,
I also have MacOs 9.1, iTunes 1.1, DiscBurner 1.01 and a QPS QueFire 12x10x32x CDRW. The actual CDRW drive in the QPS is a Plextor W1210A. You can verify your model # by installing Toast and using the "Disk Recorder Info" menu selection. I can burn audio CD's from iTunes and also burn data CD's directly from the desktop (blank CD appears on desktop). When I first installed the updates I also was not able to get my CDRW to burn. But I found that you should manually trash the Authoring Support Files Folder in your extension folder. Then reinstall iTunes 1.1 and then DiscBurner 1.01. This solved all my problems, as iTunes 1.1 did not update the files within the Authoring Support Files Folder.
With this all working, there is really no need for Toast, unless you need Multisession CDR's. Anyway, you can install the software for both and just create two sets (iTunes Set and Toast Set) to launch from your Extension Manager.
I hope this helps.

i see my Que 12x10x32x has a currently unsupported TEAC mechanism, CDW512E. that sucks.
Is it odd that the "same" Que 12x10x32 drive can have different mechanisms - is there a chance my Que! drive is not 12X10X32X, despite coming in a 12x10x32x box?

my EZQuest Boa 12x10x32 also has a Teac CDW512E. Lets hope Apple recognizes this drive in their next version of Disk Burner. I'm doing ok with Toast 5, however, and may not use it.

My Que!Fire 12X10X32X CDRW also has a TEAC 512E mechanism. It wouldn't surprise me that QPS might sell more than one mechanism under the same model number, since Toast (their officially supported software bundle) handles both.

Well... I have installed Disc Burner 1.0.1 and it burns cd's just great on my Que! Fire 8x4x32 connected to the PowerMac G3 400mhz (b&W. However I have not be able to get iTunes to work (cd burning).
Now for the interesting part.
I have a indigo iBook that I have install identically to the PowerMac G3 400mhz (b&W) and Everything works perfectly. iTunes and DB both burn flawlessly. I am lost.
BTW I have the Samsung mechanism.

Similar problem and config to those listed above, with a Que 12x10x32 drive (TEAC W512E mechanism) not working with iTunes 1.1. Has anyone come up with a hack or workaround for this particular mechanism to get it working with iTunes?
Thanks,
Adham
