My hardware set up is a TiBook running iMovie and a digital video camcorder, but I have some clips on VHS I need for a proejct I'm working on. Is there an easy (FREE) way for me to get them into the powerbook?
I've never done video work before, but my project is due next week.
thanks,
Charlie

Something that I do and works well on my camera is to connect a VCR to the camera, record it to a digital tape and then uploading it to the Mac. It should work for you. The plug-in must be the same one you use for output.
By the way, I have a Sony Digital8 (one of the first ones...)
Hope to have helped.

Not all DV cameras will function in this fashion, especially older ones.
Checking the manual can help, but it's usually an obscure feature of the camcorders that DO support it.

As long as you have an analog input on the camcorder, it should work. Just record the VHS stuff to digital tape, then download the digital tape to the Mac via Firewire.
Some camcorders (certain Sonys and newer Canons) will convert analog to digital on-the-fly - in other words, you don't have to take the intermediate step of recording to digital tape.
