We use an app called Swish to animate text for our Flash projects. Its a real pain though, because it is PC only, and we have to leave our Macs and go to this one PC to do all the text stuff.

I remember seeing a package like this discussed on MacNN in the recent past. Does anyone know the name of it?

Wildform SWfx is one such app but I haven't used it. See http://www.wildform.com

I have also used Swish on my mac under Virtual PC and it ran perfectly, even the framerate was good.

Keep in mind that most people that have these programs overdo it- just remember- text effects are like fonts or photoshop filters, you should use sparingly for effective design, in my opinion.
