Okay, I've got this DivX movie I need to put on a VCD...

Whether it gets converted to .mov, a FCP movie, anything - I don't care as long as it can be converted to MPEG1.

I have Final Cut Pro 2, Media Cleaner, Quicktime Pro etc - all the stuff.

Now, the DivX... well its wierd. I open it in DivX player, and the video plays fine with no audio.

Predecoding the audio, it won't play.

It must be DivX doctored to play properly... so that further complicates matters.

Help?

actually, that's perfect. Open DivX player. Open the doctored movie in Quicktime pro (leaving divx player open). Export the movie to Toast VCD (I know you have Toast Titanium, Cipher). I'm guessing this movie is more than about an hour long, so you might want to export it in halves, so it can fit on 700 MB CDs. It will probably take about 8 hours, depending on your system.

If you leave the divx player open, you can also try it in Cleaner, but the incode will take much longer, and it might not make Toast happy for burning a VCD. But the quality will probably be better

Thanks a bunch

I'll use Media Cleaner... so I can still use the comp while it encodes for menial tasks... and it is better quality. The MC MPEG1's work fine with Toast, for future reference

I have MPEG4 codecs that allow me to use QuickTime player without DivX Player open; but they don't support WMA sound.

So, I use DivX Player from http://mac.divx.st - needs WMP6.3. Works very nicely indeed.

For OS9. I do have an OSX one though. Dunno if it works.

incindentally, I've found in OS X that once I installed the quicktime component from http://divx.jamby.net , my doctored mov files from the OS 9 DivX player play quite nicely in OS X's quicktime player, with or without classic running (unlike in 9, the divx player no longer has to be running in the background)

was it in the background? I think it goes a lot slower if it's not the foremost app

Nope, it was foreground. Only app running also.

At the moment I'm encoding a different (SHORTER!!) movie, it's been encoding for 9 hrs, and 14 minutes of the movie has been encoded, so... blah. 46 minutes worth left to encode.

I'll be using the dual 500 for this garbage as soon as it's free :

I made a divx to vcd this weekend. It was my first time.. First attempt wasn't successful, but I found a way which worked for me. Using mac os x.1 all the way. First up I had the (newest) divx extension into quicktime (not sure if it matters really, but it seemed to be a Quicktime related problem which screwed things up the first time. Used Toast under os 9 for the encoding. Damn slow and it did even fail in the end. I wouldn't go closer into that now..). Then I used divosx Version 1.1.5.2s Avi2Mov app to make it *.mov, made it in two peaces trough Quicktime Pro, and encoded it into mpeg and burned it with toast 5 titanium preview 2 version in X.1. It took about 8-9 hours to encode the film using "fast" settings in Toast, but the result became nice thought.
Hope this help..

BTW: Using the (newest) quicktime component combined with divosx Version 1.1.5.2s Avi2Mov and Quicktime PRO (fullscreen) in X.1, is all the tools I need for my DivX playback. I guess I can play most divx movies with using these.
If some movies doesn't work for some reason, I have read about workarounds.
