Does anybody know if there is a way you can create and insert "index" on QuickTime?

I'm thinking of recording some TV programs as MPEG file with ATI-TV wonder on PC and I'd like to use QT as the video editor. I think it would be very handy if I can put some index numbers in a file so I can easily skip back and forward to and from previous or next section.
