I want to buy a device to do audio work with my imac revision b (only USB)

I need it to have midi in/out, line in/out (1/4 and/or RCA), microphone in (XLR) and optical in/out (optional but useful).

Do you know any devices that corresponds to that description that is relativelly cheap (sub-500$) and that could work in mac os 9/X?!?!

Is the Yamaha uw500 a good option?
Do you know if the yamaha can generate midi sounds?

there is a device called the imic. don't know if it has all the features you want, but perhaps it comes close. the really pro audio stuff most likely needs its own sound card with those inputs and outputs, and you'll only be able to get that with a tower.

and look for usb interfaces.
