I was wondering if there is anyway to get .mpg or .avi files onto a imovie project. I think i can do it through a DV port on my PC but it will be a whole lot easier if i could do it directly into a project....

any ideas?

If you purchase QuickTime Pro ($30), you can export those as dv streams. Drop those into the iMovie project's media folder, open iMovie, and you should be all set.
