can't seem to have animated gifs work with pictureviewer, they just stay at the first frame. is it the same for all, or is it just my quicktime?

You must view animated GIFs in QuickTime Player.

I think GraphicConverter is quite good for viewing animated GIFs. So is Animation Maker, you can use it to create animated GIFs as well as viewing them. Search for both at http://www.versiontracker.com/
