Hello everyone,
Should users of QT 5 proplayer make the jump to QT 6 proplayer quickly even though we will have to buy another key? Or should we wait to see if the key from QT 5 will be eventually accepted?

I wouldn't bet on it. Apple now has to pay the $2M fee to the MPEG-LA for the MPEG 4 encoder and decoder in QuickTime 6. I'm sure they're justifying the paid upgrade to QuickTime 6 Pro.
So much for the 'even' QuickTime updates being free (QuickTime 3 Pro keys worked in QuickTime 4, but not in 5).

I noted this on another thread, but Macnn reported that if you have bought a key in the last 30 days, you are eligable for a free update. Otherwise, tough luck.

Hi.
I know this is very "early", but if anyone has made the jump to the pro player it would be very interesting to hear about their user experiences?!
Any loss in functionality?
Thanks.
Tom.

I just spent about an hour on the phone with Apple (1-800-MY-APPLE), spoke to a manager there, got transferred to customer gratification (or whatever it's called, a misnomer in any case), they transferred me to tech support, who gave me a wrong number for QuickTime key problems, and I eventually got the regular QT number where the guy e-mailed me the knowledge base document covering it.
I bought my key on June 5, thinking I needed a Pro key to use the pro functionality in the beta. Turns out that it was a QT 5 key (but not advertised that way). Based on the false advertising, I'll see about getting my card company to reverse the charge.
Your other chance is that (a full purchase of) X.2 might include a free QT Pro key like 8.5 did (that's how I ended up with two QT 4 Pro keys in the space of a few months).

It's only $30 and that's a deal if you could use the MPEG-4 features. Otherwise just don't download QT 6 and keep your QT 5 Pro. Geez.

As far as features go, these new codecs seem to be the ONLY new thing as far as I can see. The app is still feels buggy. As far as loss of functionality, you can no longer go full screen in one monitor while you use others.
