Hello, I would like to know if t heir is a difference between QuickTime Streaming Server (QTSS) and Darwin Streaming Server (DSS) besides DSS being open source and hence-forth available on many platforms?
Also does the current QTSS 4 Public Seed require Mac OS X Server 10.1? Will it run in Mac OS X 10.1 or, if not, is their a way to make it run in OS X 10.1? If their is absolutely no way to get it to run on Mac OS X 10.1, is their a binary of Darwin Streaming Server compile for OS X 10.1? I remember their was a port of DSS to OS 9.
Lastly, does anyone know if when the final QuickTime Streaming Server 4 product is done, if Apple will offer a separate boxed (or download) version (prefably free)? I'd love this and definitely buy it, as long as the price is reasonable for an Apple ease-of-use product (their are other solutions, but none easy, or as easy as Apple could make iStreamer). So far, the only way to get it is to buy the full Mac OS X Server, at 499/999. Better yet, Apple should integrate the ability to stream MP3's into iTunes -- making it a full audio solutions apps -- but not so much functionality so it takes away from possible OS X Server buyers.
