Hi,

When I export MPEG movies to Quicktime's MOV format, only the video is exported, not the sound. Is there any way to export both the audio and video, like with other movie formats?

Thanks

I'm also finding this really annoying. I have figured out part of a work-around:
Find a copy of Sparkle (the old MPEG playing utility for Macs). It doesn't do audio, but it comes with a utility which will split the audio and video tracks of an MPEG file. This way can obtain and convert the audio-track seperately.

Unfortunately, you cannot do this. For whatever reasons, Apple has not heavily integrated the MPEG formats into Quicktime. Yes, you can play them back, but you CANNOT edit them in any way, shape or form. I believe the only way you can edit MPEG movies on Mac is with Adobe Premier, or EditDV. Both solutions cost several hundred dollars.

Even if you try to cut a short segment from an MPEG clip, Quicktime puts a virtual "wrapper" around that clip. What that does is show you the clip, but it still retains the entire file. Hence, you can never shrink an MPEG movie down using QT.

Note that Apple has also notintegrated MPEG 4.2, or AVI i263 into QT. As advanced as Apple wants you to believe Quicktime is, it's terribly behind in viewing video formats.

QuickTime uses hardware MPEG playback on ATI hardware... so
So I doubt there is a deficiency as far as playback is concerned. I watch the Matrix Fullscreen from a VCD and it looks great!

MPEGs can be edited, and I have done so many times. You just choose the right option to save as self contained file when you do that.

The only thing I cannot do is export audio - but the audio can be captured in other ways.

On a related note, Astarte was acquired by Apple. Looks like video support is gonna hit a new level!
