I find this utility quite odd. I am not sure about it yet. What are some good uses for it? I don't do the streaming vidio over the net as it is not of good quality even over a cable modem. Do I use this for all vidio on my mac?
Do or do not.... there is NO try.

well you see, quicktime is kind of like one of the major movie standards floating around (in fact, the most major?), and it would suck to miss out on it when its pretty much free... And quicktime is not streaming only, it is a movie player that handles most of your movies (can play mp3s, midi, mpeg, avi, etc), an all around useful movie utility.

... not just a movie player, but an entire movie platform. Quicktime is used throughout the operating system by many applications to display graphics files, movies, audio data, streaming media, and VR.

Another advantage is that Quicktime is a cross-platform (Windows and MacOS) tool. This means that people can develop Quicktime enabled products for most personal computers.

Don't judge the quality of Quicktime by a single file that you've viewed. For the most part, quality issues are dependent on content.

You can have a Quicktime video file, for instance that is small enough to be streamed over the internet (low visual quality) or a High Definition, uncompressed Quicktime movie running at a full 60 fields per second (See Apple's NAB booth and the newly announced Pinnacle Cine board) that looks almost as good as projected film.

please see: http://www.apple.com/quicktime/

Is this Flame Bait?

IF you honestly don't know what Quicktime is, well you don't have to like it but a lot of stuff wouldn't run on your Mac (I'm assuming you DO have a Mac!)if you didn't have it.

Learn to love it, and then get Quicktime4.1.1 PRO

I still think that it is the most combersom image viewer. CLICK ... to open CLICK to close. It may be good fo viewing moving pictures. I don't much like/need to view much vidio. I have huge image files that I use in photoshop. I have been looking for something that will allow me to browse through them and see wich ones I want to keep or throw out. I have found this to be too much work in Qtime. I am sure it serves its purpouse. It just seems a little to AOL for me. does any one have any suggestions?

JPEGview is still my favorite.

Anyway, QuickTime isn't just for video, but for all multimedia. It allows your Mac to read several image formats accross all application that it otherwise wouldn't. For that reason, many applications require QuickTime. Virtually all games do as well.

The parts of QuickTime that users can actually use (MoviePlayer, PictureViewer) make up just a very small part of what it does and allows your Mac to do.

I don't understand your complaint... Nothing touches QT when it comes to playing trailers and such. Be advised, on a Mac your "Help" menu can'tand won't work without it.

QT still doesn't stream Fox news live. Apple is missing out on a big opportunity for a real QT TV, especially when Media Fusion starts connecting people at 2.5 GB/sec all over the world.

Apple needs to start investing in partnerships to stream all kinds of TV, or even start a few of their own live channels, like education, technology (like ZDTV), and sports.

You obviously have never heard about Apple's significant investment share in Akamaitech that is now worth over a billion dollars (on paper).

Quite an uproar I've started...... sorry. I am simply saying that I think that QT sucks for viewing stills with any amount of speed. The utility was designed for motion. It does do that very well. It would be nice if they decided to have a feature for the stills that did something like thumb-nails or allowed you to scrole through a file. Then I would use it all the time. I do say that it is good for viewing one or two pics but what if you have 500 and your looking for one and you don't know the name of it. IT IS NO GOOD FOR SOMETHING LIKE THAT.

Graphic Converter has a great browser mode that will probably suit your needs for still pics.

For multimedia, though, Quicktime is the Mac standard. It's quality would make it the standard all around if it weren't for the sneaky and illegal marketing of Microsnot!!!!!

Do your self a favor and get an image catalog program, like iView or some other similar program.
Plain, simple and to the point.
