Has anyone noticed a difference in sound quality playing the same file on i tunes and real pLayer? i get much better sound quality on the real player, and that's without an eq. Why is that? Will the quality be effected when i burn? Would appreciate you comments. Also, i have a bunch of files left over from the napster days, and they are those white icon folders. They will play when they pass through itunes, but they will not play on real player of quick time. can we convert them? Thanks folks, appreciate the help.

I don't know what type of files you're playing but I disagree. I can't stand RP.

I listen mostly to streaming radio stations and the sound quality is horrible. I'm sure it's mostly determined by the broadcaster but I never run into a high quality broadcst signal in RP. MP3 broadcasts are much better and more reliable signals.

I wish more stations d broadcast in mp3.

I'm running normal mp3 files that i'm downloaded. You can certainly disagree, but the fact is when I play them back, the quality is not as good. I was hoping for an explanation somewhere. Thanks anyway.

what version of itunes are you using?
i also find this questionable...
having used both apps, & audion, itunes sounds best...
for me, anyway (& i'm a music producer).

if you're using itunes2...is the eq on? try backing the enhancer setting somewhat left-of-center, it can overload...

more info please!

I'm using 1.1 so no eq. I also use quick time sometimes and of course the aforementioned real player plus. Thanks.

Yeah, you're right. I really didn't address your question and I don't have an explanation. I guess I'm just curious on why RP is soooo popular and the sound quality doesn't seem much better than when it was first introduced years ago.

Well, I'm not saying it's better, just that it's sounding better. I'm not particularly a fan of the product. Maybe you can help me with another question though. When Iuse Limewire, it automatically downloads a real Player file, then i can't get quick time to open the file. How can I change the player used on Limewire, and how can I get QT to open the file and play it. Thanks.

iTunes' sound quality is FAR superior. (I use high quality mp3's.)

Well I used to know on OS 9....

I think, I'm not sure, the answer lies with the Get Info dialog box. Select one of your d/l'ed files and Get Info. In the pull-down box, go to the 'Open with Application' and select the app you want to open that file. Also hit the 'Change all' button. This should have all those files open with the app you want. Again, I think that might work.

I used this technique to get the OS X text editor to open generic text files.

Yes there is. Highlight the item, then Show Info. When the Dialog box comes up the first thing you see is 'General Information'. Click on that.

I tried to post a screen capture but I'm not sure how to here.

try this.

you need an app that can change the info for those files to quicktime
(you need this info:
type: MooV creator: TVOD ) that's quicktime.

i'd get itunes 2, it's a significantly better music player that QT...
& you can, at versiontracker.com, get "itunes associator", which will automatically convert all your music files to itunes files...

anyway hope this helps...

Hi again, I appreciate your help, but no go. I see the dialog box and the "General Information" next to show. When i click on it it turns blue with a check and there is no pull down menu. Under label below there is, but that's just for color coding. I'm at a loss
