One of the things I love about my Powerbook is connecting it to an A/V system via the S-Video out connector. I have used this feature several times, most often to show QuickTime movies to my classes (usually theatrical movie trailers). These trailers look great on A/V systems, with better than video image quality and usually a very high frame rate. Movie quality.
I have typically used the Powerbook running off of battery power, with the reduced processor speed and processor cycling features of the Energy Saver CP disabled, when showing QT movies over a A/V system. (When reduced processor speed and processor cycling features are enabled, QT playback is really slow and choppy.)
The last time I showed a movie to a class was before I left for Thailand; more importantly, before I upgraded to OS 9.0.4.
I have tried connecting my Powerbook to the A/V system in my classroom on three different occasions recently. In each case, when I tried to show a QT movie, playback just sucked. It was slow and choppy, just as though reduced processor speed and processor cycling WERE enabled (but they weren't as I checked and re-checked).
I thought the new TV Mirroring control strip module installed by the 9.0.4 update might be the problem, but re-installing the old version didn't help.
My version of QT is the same and I believe that all components are the same. Any ideas?
I should note that if I switch TV Mirroring off, so that I get one huge desktop, the QT movies play just fine.
