Just setting up my Ibook for use with FCP and wondered if anyone had experience using portable firewire drives (ie bus powered) to to capture and playback Video with Final Cut (and the Sony DVMC), and run basic Protools sessions? I've got full size FW drives on my G4 (oxford bridge chip) running large Protools sessions without a problem and these work fine on the Ibook, but I'm looking for a portable setup too.

i use the mini pro 2.5 ext fw drive (30 gig/4200 RPM) with my Ti500 and FCP 2. It works good except I've never been able to capture footage from the camera to the fw drvie over the one fw bus(using a chain Ti->HD->Camera). I usually end up loging and capturing my footage to my internal HD then transfer it to the external for editing/backup.

This is interesting. I've successfully captured with my Maxtor 60 gig firewire (5400rpm) running my Sony DVMC through it without a hitch. Is this just a drive speed issue? or does the Bus powered drive mess with the throughput? Anyone have any input here?
