What do you all recommend? Price is important, I want something under £500. The only other thing is it must work with iMovie and let me send video back from computer to camera as well as the other way round.

What the nerd community most often fail to realize is that all features aren't equal. A well implemented and well integrated feature in a convenient interface is worth way more than the same feature implemented crappy, or accessed through a annoying interface.

Forgot to add, second hand is OK. If you guys tell me what to look for, I can hang out on Ebay for a while

WELL, There is a slight problem with the DVin/out feature you need! They don't come cheap. Most cameras have a DV out only ,I have a Sony DCR TRV 900 E, that has them both but it cost me (last year) 1400 pounds. If you can get it second hand it may be what you need. I know the TRV 890 does the same thing but is not that much cheaper...
Maybe you should wait a bit, prices go down, in japan Sony introduced microDV, that should make our humble miniDVs cheaper. Hope I helped...

Someone offered me a Sony DCR TRV20E. (The guy in the thread Chuck-star gave the link to). What do you all think of that model? It has DV in/out and works with iMovie, right?

I can't find a page about it on Sony's site... anyone got the specs?

Waiting isn't really an option, as I need some form of camera (either still or video) soon. It's one or the other, and I'd much prefer the DV one

FYI I Checked on the apple web site and that model is not listed in their FCP compatible page. Have a look.
http://www.apple.com/finalcutpro/tec...ification.html

doesn't mean it won't work but, kind of weird that it's its not on their website or on the list.

The best deal around for a DV camera that has DV In/Out and that is compatable with iMovie is probably the Canon DV400i.

I bought mine online for £611 inc delivery and VAT from here :-
http://www.digital-cameras.com/

Great service very quick.

The camera also comes with a FireWire card for a PC, so if you have a PC around you can also use the camera on that as well, it even came with PC software.

Of course it worked straight of the box with my iMac DVSE.

It's worth keeping an eye out on eBay (www.ebay.co.uk). Used Sony DV cameras with DV-In enabled are coming up (a PC7 went for £490 last week with DV-In enabled) and could provide a cheap way in.
