Try something like 1-4 Megapixel.

But anyway yes, in general, higher is better. Although there can be quality differences. In general you get what you pay for. A 1.5 Mpixel $10,000.00 camera will look better than a 4 Mpx $500 camera.
Or were you talking about DV camcorders. I think they're up to 1.4 megapixel now? The highest they can actually go is 680,000; above that is just interpolated down. Beware though, a 680,000 px camera may still interpolate down and only give you about 400kpx quality. DV cams are priced pretty well in line with their quality. Get the features and size you want, just be sure it is compatible with iMovie/FinalCut.
