Both FCP and iMovie (latest versions) have stopped recognizing my Canon XM1 - iMovie says "Camera Disconnected" FCP says "Unable to locate external video device".

I'm using 10.1.5 - and it works fine on an identical machine . What's going on? I've trashed iMovie's preferences - no difference, I've trashed FCP preferences and reinstalled - no difference.

My Firewire ports are fine as I can work my scanner from them.

Does anybody have any idea - like I say it works fine on an identical machine.

Corrupted .kext file? I'm pretty sure these are what enable different peripherals. May take some unix mojo to fix. I probably know just enough about it to thoroughly trash my system.
