QTVR plug-in problem

Is it possible to just download the plug-in that allows a viewer to experience a QTVR off a web site or do you have to have the whole QuickTime package?

I created a QTVR of our church sanctuary and placed it in our church website. When I had a friend check it out on his PC, I guess his browser didn't have a recent enough QT to view the QTVR but in going to the Apple web site to get updated it appears he has to download the whole free QT, a file over 3 Mb in size which takes a while on a 56k modem. I searched around, but didn't seem to be able to find just a simple plug-in that could be loaded by itself.

If potential viewers with anything less than high speed cable or DSL want to view this QTVR and have to spend this much time getting the viewer package, I think they'll be discouraged. Surely there is an easier way, probably obvious too, but I'm missing it.

Any suggestions, can you direct me to a better (and briefer) download site? Thanks

At the moment you need the full QT Player. This is one of the issues that's being addressed in QT4.5 - QT5 to provide standalone self playing QTVR's, the whole QTVR end of things is getting a major revamp.

I think Apple has finally recognised the retail value of such a technology.

PS - 3Megs is a big file - I'd lower the res of the images so that the finished panorama is only about 1.2M - I try to target my VR's at about a meg 'cos I live in crummy dial-up land and think in dial-up d/l speeds.

Thanks Feathers, I was afraid the full QT player download was the case. The 3+ Mb file I was referring to was the QT download size reported to me by the testing PC user. I checked and it's only 2.78 Mb but that's still a long load for a slow modem just to get the player, then my website visitor has to make a download of my qtvr - which I have pared down to around 570K to save time. Together, both downloads may require more time than the viewr wants to commit. Of course, once he/she has QT player, it won't be necessary to do that part of the download again.
