Does anyone know off the top of their head what it is? I'd really like to get one, but I'm really on a budget.

Panasonic makes a decent 3CCD. The product code is NV-MX2500. But I believe this model may only be sold in Japan. Check their web site and maybe you will find the US version. I paid about $1,100 for mine in Tokyo

sony trv900 or trv950.

Both produce decent video quality at a budget. Keep your eye open for canon GL1 deal now that the gl2 is out. I'll probably be looking to sell mine pretty soon to upgrade.
