Does someone knows how can I play an avi file on a mac. I have the latest Q4, 9.0.4...
And I also have the indeo 5 video codec...
If I try to view the movie´s info, it does not shows the codec version or type.
Any suggestions would be useful, Thanks.

First, you need QuickTime Pro to use the Indeo codecs.
Second, the Indeo 5 codec does not replace the Indeo 3 and Indeo 4 codecs. You should have all three on your computer.

Crud, AVI's play just fine with QT Player, or any other QT thing (browser plugin, AppleWorks...). You don't need anything besides QT. Even QT3 played AVI's, maybe earlier versions did too.

Thanks for the help...
But it all worked when I downloaded the divx player!!!
I tried everything, how the hell was I going to know that the avi file had the mpeg4 and mp3 layer format!!
I´ve never seen that before

Ditto, I've never understood this "...how do you..." question. QT does and The Intel Raw Video and Indeo extensions come as part of "Internet Access B1.2 or later(and maybe earlier)"

Umm.. I was thinking, isn't AVI kind of a "wrapper"? Can you maybe put different types of stuff "into" it, which would need other types of extensions, etc. to play? Maybe I'm making this up, but it would explain...

Yes, AVI is a wrapper that tends to contain a video track compressed with a codec from a narrower selection of codecs than available though QT. Most frequently one of the Indeo's (3,4,5) or Cinepak or the old h261 or MPEG4 or the plain video or none codecs!!!
The most common cause of the failure to play .avi's is the Indeo codecs missing or the Intel Raw Video extension missing. But of course, if people searched the archives this info is SO readily available, they shouldn't need to post at all. On the other hand, "...search the archives..." replies all the time would get a bit tedious if not totally impolite.
A quick trip to www.codeccentral.com/ or www.terran.com/ will sort out most people and a lot more besides.
