Re: the Sage iMac commercial can't be saved.

Yes it can. Here's how: (OS 9.04/IE5.0/QT Pro 4)

-Let the movie finish downloading and playing
-DON'T quit Internet Explorer!
-Go into the Explorer folder in the Prefs folder.
-Find the Temporary Files folder. Your movie is inside!
-Copy to the desktop (you can quit IE now)
-open the movie file with ResEdit. Add a resource fork and change the Type to MooV and the Creator to TVOD
-(Optional) Give the file a meaningful name- you're on a Mac, dammit!!
-You now have a double-clickable MoviePlayer doc.

Cheers :->

hey, that's exactly what I was about to post

when I have downloaded movies this way, just double clicking the movie opens it up in internet explorer then changes the file type for you, no need to use file typer or resedit(I did have to for the sage on tho)

where there's a cache there's a way

BTW the same method works for Netscape and there are other ways. For example you could pick the URL out of the page source.. I can't remember it but it's there, just search for ".mov" and then create an html page with a link to that URL and option click it.

The full-screen Apple commercials that your viewers are unable to save to their hard drive are available in their cache. I've saved all four movies. Just have them do a sherlock search for "QTPluginTemp" on their hard drive. There should be four separate files. I don't know if this makes a difference, but I have "Save movies in disk cache" selected in my QuickTime™ Settings Control Panel.

how save them!

connect and watch the files, exit and bring on sherlock. Search for files changed today and you will find files named something like this 'QTPluginTemp137835' in a folder named 'Temporary Items' drag/copy these to the desktop and change thier type/creator to MooV/TVOD! Rename them to somthing better!

I guess you have to set the prefs in quicktime settings to 'save movies to diskcache' before.

Forgot to mention something.

Don't click on those links just yet!

If you are using IE, select "download to disk" option from the menu. Do the same thing for Netscape.

BTW, these are the 640x480 versions.

If you use iCab, it is even easier. Just search for a .mov file using Sherlock. Copy to desktop or wherever else you want it.

Nutscrape and IdiotExploiter are too bloated and too screwy for any sane person to use. iCab is the wave of the future.

is there a way to save the Britney movie? (as far as I can tell it's streaming from a QT server)

My solution is not as elegant. I download the movie. I don't have to play it. I restart the computer and then look for it in Norton's unerase. I save it to my hard disk and then double click to play.

Funny how everyone comes up with these ideas at once. I just did it on my own the other day in Netscape.

My only question is whether anyone has been able to change the "disable saving from web" setting. In hexedit (that's what I have) I can find the nsav text, but changing that alone doesn't do the trick. I did many many many other thing that didn't work either. I want to be able to export the movies from QT in a different format, but that no save dialouge always appears. Does what you did by changing the file type solve this problem? I didn't do it exactly as described above, that's why I ask.

Just copy paste the URL into an already downloaded item in the IE download manager and reload. It will download using the new URL and all you have to do is rename the file! Easy!
