Okay, I'm going crazy, trying to make a simple movie with my imac and jvc dv. I have an iMac DV SE 400mhz, OS 9.0.4, 192MB ram, and a JVC DV M70U. Can I or Can I Not export transitions and titles? I have no problem exporting to tape simple overlapping edits. But as soon as I add a title or transition, the JVC will simply stop. I have seen all sort of different comments on the web, and tried all of their recommendations. Still the same thing. Anyone have the final answer??? thank you all mac fans!!!
(What I tried to fix the export problem:
1. updated to iMovie 1.0.2
2. updated to iMovie 2.0.2
3. installed EditDV (trying to use its Codec)
4. Installed QuickTime 5 (trying to use the new Codec)
5. screamed, yelled, and (almost) through the JVC out the window)

I can export transitions, titles, etc. from iMovie 2 to my JVC GR-DVF21U from my G3/466 (Orange Micro Firewire/USB combo card). I haven't tried it from an iMac, though I've imported from this camera to a slot-loading iMac DV 400. I'll give export a try with it when I get a chance and post.
I imagine your problem is with Apple's vs. JVC's idea of the Firewire command set. With the Orange Micro board I have to push the record button on the camera to get it to record when I export. The camera tape drive gets started and stopped by Firewire, it just wouldn't record until I hit the button.
I recently tried a VST Firewire/USB combo card and it had the same problem, except that when I hit the record button the camera locked up and the Firewire link crashed. VST uses the same TI chipset as Apple, and Orange Micro doesn't, BTW. (Actually, when I asked VST about this they offered to repair/replace the board, which I will take them up on, though I wouldn't be surprised if there isn't anything "wrong" with it)

I don't know this for sure, but I read that the Quick Time version included in the os 9.1 update fixed the problem with JVC dv cameras. Try it out before you do anything drastic.
BTW, the EditDV codec won't work with iMovie, but it will work with EditDV, so you might want to get used to using it instead of iMovie. You'll get full use of titles and transitions plus a lot of editing features not available with iMovie.
Hope things work out!

If you want to see what the EditDV codec can do, there is a free, fully functioning version of EditDV Unplugged available from http://digitalorigin.media100.com/un.../register1.asp
Ideal if you have outgrown iMovie and can't afford FCP!
Note that if you want to keep iMovie you should set up a custom extension set for use with EditDV.
