Whoa, hang on. I've been caught in a nightmare lately which is based on my iMac DV running iMovie 2 refusing to recognize my Sony VX-2000. While the previous model, the VX-1000, was officially compatible with iMovie, the newer VX-2000 is not. However, the VX-2000 is officially compatible with Final Cut Pro, so I'm considering upgrading my hardware and getting FCP. Anyone have any more info on this? I've run into a lot of dead ends.

I've used my VX-2000E (PAL) with iMovie, iMovie2 and FCP on an iMac DV for several months now with no problems.
I wonder if handelnyc might have FireWire hardware problems? Perhaps it might be worth trying a borrowed DV camera with iMovie2 to see if that works.
