Hi there !
I sure am tired of apple for doing this! There are still to many out there with lame modems and seriously, why can't we collect these adds!?!!??
Oh well, here is how you CAN SAVE the adds!
It doesn't work for all adds, but most of them work. Like the new Sage!
Ok here is how!
First you have to download the primitive yet quite useful browser called iCab.
Then you paste in the address :
http://a772.g.akamai.net/5/772/51/e5...3/sage1_T1.mov
After you have done that, you can save the movie on your desktop. If you can't just go into its folder of its cashe and there it is!
Good luck, it worked for me, so it should work for you too!
Have fun!

If you find an "un-save-able" movie on the internet, it will actually be saved to your hard drive - in your browser cache. You only need to dig into your cache folder and remove it (and probably rename it).

Actually, the iMac ads aren't saved in the cache, but that is just a setting in their embed tags. Download the source HTML (using any browser), change the attribute in the embed tag (it says cache=false) to cache=true, or you can just delete that attribute altogether. Open the new page you made, and the file will show up in your cache, like Patrick says.

Hey "761 of Nine" that's a genuinely useful post.
I must say Lycra, I object to iCab being referred to as "Primitive" and us dummies are so grateful for your general enlightenment. Why not wait 'til somebody actually asks a question, though?

Er y'know "Seven Of Nine" the Borg Chicklet in StarTrek Voyager, well you're "761 of Nine" and all that "Resistance Is Futile" stuff. All meant in the nicest possible way of course. No offence intended.

That explains why I didn't get it - don't watch Star Trek. Very funny (seriously). Except the chicklet part. Are you calling me gum?

Just clicked on the link showing the sage movie. Everthing worked fine. I just have to click the arrow on the right and after the download completes, Save as QT movie!
Simple as that!
Your browser might not display the down-arrow because you enabled kiosk mode in the QuickTime control panel. TO make the movie sava(able), just disable kiosk mode.
Streaming movies cannot be saved. Quite true in a way, but users of ... (forgot the prog.name) can actually capture what they see on the screen. So, you save the movie using that app and re-watch it whenever you like.
Also, one way to speed up your Macintosh without spending $$$ is to....
1) Disable "smoothen all fonts" in the appearance -> Fonts menu.
2) Make a RAM Disk to store frequently accessed files / programs.
3) No Virtual Memory. Get Ram Doubler
4) Get Peek-A-Boo (available at all major download sites: macdownload.com or download.com) and set "High priority for the app. that you want to run fast.
5) Run a Maximum of 2 'visable' apps at one time. Also, using peek-a-boo and 'KILL' all those background apps / extensions.
------------------------------------------------
Yeah, yeah. I know this stuff doesn't belong to this QT forums but, hey, this is actually a way to speed up your Mac for play-back of QuickTime movies, in FULL SCREEN.
I'm on a G3/233 (266 o-clocked) and plan to upgrade to 500 MHz G3. Suggestions? Where should I post this note??!?!
Thanks all!

techniques mentioned for saving "unsavable" QuickTime movies may not work in the future. However, Aaron Smith has come up with another suggestion. He writes:
"The movie trailer for Ring of Fire does not behave like previous trailers. With movie trailers downloaded in the past, the file was either stored in the "Temporary Files" folder for Internet Explorer (contained within the Preferences Folder for the System), or was stored in the invisible "Temporary Items" folder for the Hard Disk under some random "QuickTemp" file name. This isn't the case for the Ring of Fire movie trailer (I couldn't figure out where the file was being stored on my disk at all). A workaround for this is to open up the source code for the web site which is displaying the movie trailer in question. Then locate the "embed" tag within the HTML code and copy the URL assigned to the "src" tag. Open up a new browser window, and paste it into the URL field. Then hit the "Go" button or hit the enter key to open the connection to the Web site. Nothing should change in the browser field, but you should see the download progress of the movie file displayed at the bottom of browser window. The file will be downloaded in Explorer's temporary files folder with a name like "Orig_000a9fc0.IETemp." It's probably also a good idea to move the file out of the temporary Files folder before closing the browser window."
