Keyboard gets disabled

9.2.2 on a G4 desktop 500MHz/1GB Macsense USB keyboard -- once or twice a day, the hard drive grinds a bit and then the keyboard gets disabled. I can unplug and plug it back in to get it working again, but any idea why this might be happening? Thanks.
