JLK uses SJIS. There is no way to use the JIS for a system.
I'm not really sure what do you want to do. Communicating
with your gf by what? email? If you send email in Japanese,
most of email clients convert sjis to jis(iso-2022jp).
Or... if you just need to edit text in jis, use "jedit."
You can choose Kanji format as "sjis," "jis," or "euc".
also you can choose line feed from "LF", "LF+CR", or "CR."
