Ok, I decided to take the plunge and install OS9 last night. All went well. It installed Netscape Communicator 4.6 on my computer, so I immediately ran SmartUpdate and updated to Communicator 4.7 with 128-bit encryption. Well, after that the Browse the Internet icon refused to launch Netscape telling me that the helper application was missing. I then promptly deleted Netscape, trashed everything Netscape related from the Preferences folder and downloaded a full clean copy of Netscape. Still no dice. Anyone ever see this? Staying with 4.6 is not a horribly bad thing, but I do like to stay current...

This is pretty basic, but it might help. Make sure that in your Internet Control Panel, you have selected Netscape as your default browser under the Web section. Also in this control panel you can select the default programs for Email and News browsing. Hope this helps.

Actually, I did that. And it worked, till I ran SmartUpdate. Then none of tabs in the Internet control panel recongnize Netscape as an installed choice.

It's very strange.
