I was wondering if anyone new if apple eer planned on supporting external burners such as the firewire one I have on my G4 400?

Probably. Apple said to watch out for updates to their iTunes drivers in the next couple months. I've heard of the current drivers working with a couple of Firewire burners already. I'm sure it'll support most eventually.

I asked about that at MacWorld. The reply I got was there is are pulgins in the works for other brands of burners. When I asked when they would be availible the guy got a little evasive. "Three to nine months" was the response he gave. By then you should be in luck. On the otherhand I probably will never get suport for the Plextor 8x4x32 in place of the CD-ROM in my B&W G3.

You shouldn't have any problem with your Plextor, since this is the mechanism QPS uses in the Que! Fire firewire burners. It seems that the burner support files in Discburner/iTunes have one file for the bus and one for the mechanism. In your case, ATAPI is already supported and Plextor should be forthcoming because of the large installed base of Que drive.
